We have lived in our development for about 2 years and did not have any issues the 1st year (aside from the fact that overall is it an unfriendly neighborhood). Last year the house next to us sold and a family moved in. Their house is now in a constant start of disorganization and repair. They cut down one of the original trees (which afforded us substantial privacy)of the neighborhood without notifying anyone (waited until we were out of town), have 5 pets (3 is the limit), painted half the house, have a mailbox post that falls out of the ground that they keep sticking back, a broken lamp, and added a huge basketball net in the cul de sac where they are constantly banging up to 3 basketballs at a time. We put in a formal complaint to the HOA (after trying to work with the neighbors)and were basically demonized by these people and the neighborhood (pack mentality).
The HOA is comprised of neighbors, so we have no management company to turn to. There was a HOA meeting in April which we missed because of a funeral and after several requests they continue to ignore us and won't send us the meeting minutes. Not only is our property value negatively affected, but we are harassed (have been threatened) by these neighbors on a daily basis. We are very quiet, keep our property maintained and just want to rules enforced that we pay for in our dues.
Is there any recourse for us? We are not in the position to move and would lose money on the home due to the poor market conditions.
