My HOA has said they might not repair my roof - that was damaged by a tree the President refused to have taken down for well over a year - until it leaks. If it leaks, then will I be responsible for the inside - or will they since they let it go so long?

If the tree was on common elements and is the responsibility of the Association, it would stand to reason that any damage resulting from the Association's failure to maintain would be that of the Association. But remember that the law is anything but reasonable. I would take lots of pictures of the existing damage and written statements from anyone who might have seen it fall along with prior requests to have it taken down. I would then send a certified letter to the Association requesting that they repair the damage their tree caused before it damages the interior of your unit. Remember as far as the law goes (I'm not a lawyer so this is not legal advice) if it's not in writing it didn't happen. So you could say you called to request repairs a dozen times and they could say you just called to say hi.
