Our ARC has approved the use of artificial flowers in a planter attached to a lattice in the front of a townhouse. The covenents specify: The use of decorative items, including, but not limited to, statues, gates, rocks, planters, bird baths, and other ornamental accessories are prohibited, unless the ARC has given written permission for their instalation prior to use, installation or construction. My problem is this opens the door for any owner to use artificial plants/flowers in our community. I think it could ruin the beauty of our area. Its tacky!

Peter,

I agree with you, artificial flowers can be tacky especially when they are faded from the sunlight. On the other hand I have seen some artificial plants where you cannot tell if they are real or fake. Having said that, the ARC has not violated the covenants since they gave their approval for the planter and artificial flowers. Actually I see nothing wrong with having the "ornamental" accessories mentioned in your declaration. In fact I've always wondered why some assn's are so restrictive and only allow trees and shrubs in front yards. In AZ there is hardly a front yard that doesn't have a large rock (boulder) in it and most front yards are gravel instead of grass.

BTW, I don't see any other comments to this thread.
