don't want to be a pest. The previous board had an architectural committee that was very good and had plans approved within 15 days after visiting and talking to move owners( ex Contractor) This allowed projects to move forward nicely. The present board has decided to wait from 45 to 60 days before considering it. Is there any VA or FHA requirement in Arizona like there are in some states that I have noticed on here concerning the 30 day decision? Waiting 60 days in Arizona puts the project off sometimes until winter. Thanks again. I promise I won't bother anyone for awhile.

Don’t worry about being a pest – if you have questions, ask them (that’s why this website exists, so we can all learn from each other).

I don’t see where the VA or FHA would have anything to do with architectural change requests – I would think they’re more concerned with financing (maybe their 30 day requirement, whatever it is, has to do with the construction of a new home).

In my experience, architectural change requests have to do with exterior changes people want to make to their homes, and since you’re in a HOA community, those changes have to be reviewed and approved by the board (or architectural committee in your case) to ensure the changes blend in with the community’s overall look and design.

I don’t know why the board would wait 45-60 days to review something – we do it at our meetings, as the first item on the management company report (if we have any). Sounds like there isn’t anyone to volunteer to serve on the committee and with whatever else is going on, your board has apparently decided it’s easier to deal with other issues and then come back to the requests.

You will need to ask them why there’s a delay – if there are no committee volunteers, here’s another chance for you to get more involved in the community and volunteer to recruit members and become one yourself. The new committee can figure out timelines, what people need to present to speed things along, etc.

Bert,

No one here will consider you a pest, so please don't worry about that. We're here to answer your questions whether it's only 1 or ten! :-)

Have you checked your CCRs and/or architectural guidelines? Some state a request must be acted upon w/i a certain number of days or it can be considered approved. There is no federal or state law which addresses this issue. My assn's A/C committee meets monthly to review all requests which have been received. Also, our PM has authority to approve some requests, such as those for painting, as soon as received. I see no good reason for waiting 45-60 days to review a request. And, why is the BOD making the approval. Don't your CCRs give that resp. to the architectural committee. In most cases, the BOD only gets involved is a member decides to appeal a decision of the architectural committee.

Thanks to both for the response. I really thought I would have to wait days before I had information. The old board had a guy that did it and did it well. The new board has a a fellow that does it but the President wants the entire board to approve. Thats that I guess. The reason why I asked is that by viewing some of the discussion here is that the VA and FHA(If those are the types of loans) in some states require that approval has to be done in 30 days(or disapproval) or the project is considered approved. Guess I was reading it wrong. Thanks for the info.
