We are located in Wake County in NC. I am currently a member elected Director on our Board and have been trying to represent the member's interests in every regard. Our previous Board members have consistently broken the laws of our state that regulate HOAs. They have also been negligent in reading and adhering to our own governing documents. My husband and I have given them copies of the laws and have referenced the governing documents to try to help them in doing the right things for all members. Most of the Board members have done things that have not only been illegal, but self serving. Our Yearly member meeting is supposed to be held every February with the adequate notice to the members. Instead the meeting was held this month and was moved from the common club house location to a library close by. Instead of holding private ballots for the election of the new Board members, they wrote in previous Board members and included a couple of blank lines. The Board meeting that was to occur immediately following the member's meeting was also not held. The nominees have not been informed and I have been systematically left out of the Association's business and notifications. The more they know that they are breaking the law, the more illegal things they do. We now have enough members and proxies to have these Board members removed, however, I suspect they will not go willingly.

Its typical.

Volunteer positions, people who don't care about the law, and they don't have to. The worst that could happen is they get voted out. No biggie.

You may want to spend the money on stamps and write a letter to each resident telling them you (and others?) are running for BOD and your qualifications, etc. Try not to mention too many negatives about the board or people will think your a troublemaker.
