“Going Green” is the title on our news letter this month…. Then the message below goes to explain the cost of postage and paper and that the board would like to send the monthly news letter and billing to residence at their email account. I can understand reading the news letter on the internet but what about monthly billings???
I never gave the board my email to be an account, it was given to them a long time ago at free will for postings of meetings. Is this legal if we have not signed our email as a billing account from our HOA and should we ask the HOA to also set up an account at the bank so we can pay our monthly dues online?

I don't think they can force people to use email, either for official communications, and least of all for billing.

Billings often contain personal information and email is traditionally NOT a very secure method to send such information.

Someone wasn't wearing their thinking caps the day they came up with that solution.

Off-Topic Rant PS: It has nothing to do with "going green" and everything to do with "saving green," which are two distinctly different things.

It annoys me when people promote something that is intended to save themselves $$$ as an interest in reducing a carbon footprint of some kind. Exploitive.

TamH,
Why do you send out monthly billings?? Each year at annual meeting time we send around a package to each unit that contains, among other things, a page that lists the monthly payments for that unit, for the year. The owner can select to clip the months indicated and include it with their check, or not, but the regular assessments are included in that figure. And special individual monthly charges (Golf cart storage) is noted also for the year. So..........no monthly bills are sent out. Any unusual charges for fines or services outside the norm is sent out individually by regular mail.
E-mail is not the method to send out bills of any kind. I receive notification of my phone bill from the utility monthly, but I signed up and requested this service, I also have elected to receive a snail mail bill. I also have this amount deducted from a credit card automatically.

Which brings up a question. How many associations will accept credit card payments? Ours does not, but I suspect it could be set up to be done electronically. Anyone want to comment, the question seems to fit this thread.

We pretty much do everything through email and it works well for us. Members can request snail mail, but we only have two out of 76 that do. In Texas, it is legal. There are specifics, such as it being in the bylaws. You should check your docs and State law if you want to know if it is legal.
Have you emailed the board and requested your bills to be mailed rather than emailed? If so, what was the response.

Thanks for your replys. I have notified by email the HOA to mail my billing and have no response at this time. Will check on snail mail.

TamH,
Does the above mean you sent the Board an e-mail telling them to e-mail you; your billing monthly along with newsletter? Then the sentence, "will check on snail mail." I am confused but really, it you are happy..........that's fine with me.
