Somehow our HOA allowed 2 renters to be elected to the Board of Directors!! I was unable to attend the meeting and am trying to have them removed. Any suggestions?

Do you have a Management Company? You might want to contact them first, and maybe they can call the President of the Board to let them know that they need to appoint two non-renters to replace them. I'm sure your CCRs don't allow for that sort of thing...

First as John alluded to, you need to determine whether non-members can serve on the Board; which should be in the By-laws. There are some Associations that don’t even require you live in the Association to serve on the Board.

Studies show that 5 out of 4 people have problems with fractions

Read your governing documents; normally this is addressed in the Bylaws. You may be surprised to find that there are no or minimal restrictions, such as a person 18 years of age, for Board members. Often they do not have to be owners nor members of the association. The Developer often establishe the original governing documents; this includes Bylaw requirements for Board members which allow appointment of their cronies in order to control the Board to protect their investment.
