I've built my HOA a small website to offer basic services to property owners but will begin posting facts and other tidbits of info that will be possibly beneficial to home buyers and realtors. It's simple and it's a learning process.

One of the board members loves discussing HOA matters from both our HOA-specific agenda items and from a philosophical standpoint. I convinced him to write semi-regularly to our HOA website and gave him a link called "McMahon's Corner" to speak his mind about issues without the finger-pointing that often goes along with it.

He wrote a neat piece on his perspective of Reserve Funds and posted it on Friday morning. If you get a moment to "engage" please check him out by Googling "Mcmahon's Corner." It's part of the Edgehill Farm website. There are no ads or anything and I DO NOT wish to detract from the wonderful conversations at HOATalk.com as it's very beneficial to me as an HOA president.

Would HOA Talk allow us to place an online button of support on our page to support this website?

It's very nice and huge tool of support for us volunteers - most of us really do want to learn and understand more about what we've gotten ourselves into.

Kelly,
This seems to have gotten overlooked or something.

Are you asking to put a HoaTalk site link on your website?

If that is the question I don't see how anyone in the world could stop you. I would assume all clicking on the link if they want to post may have to register.
I don't think it would be productive to use this site as a venue to solve your day to day problems or serve as some kind of authoritative resource. We really aren't, from what I know. We give opinions to anyone that posts here and we can elect when and to who we want to engage. I assure you if the posting has credibility it will be considered by lots of people, responses are up to the individual. You internal association business only serves as a reference here in that it may apply to other Hoa's.

I hope that the board member has board permission to "discuss" HOA news on a web site.

The columns to be general topics regarding the broad issues of living under an HOA, serving on an HOA board and this notion of "community," which allows an HOA stick its hands in our pockets whether we volunteer to serve on the board or not. No using it for personal scores.

Regarding permission, no permission is needed. Our by laws don't mention websites or speech infringement of board members. I think it would be dangerous to assume the negative - meaning that issues not mentioned in by-laws cannot be followed until the board approves. In fact, I wish all our board members would write from time to time since we're all from different areas of the neighborhood and walks of life. They have a standing invitation.

It's a decent board that finds the mole when it stumbles upon mole hills and generally doesn't make mountains from them.

ANY effort that reduces community apathy, I'll support.
