We have new elevator pads in our six story condo building. A resident had windows replaced. The company bringing the windows in punched holes in the pads with the windows and made a small scratch on the surface of the elevator wall. The window company and the resident think that the new pads are not sturdy enough. How can I find out about elevator pads? What is acceptable practice? How thick should the pads be? What material should they be made of? Other Board members want to make the owner replace the pads and repair the wall. I just would like some way of determining what is fair.

measure the thickness of your pads. figure out the material (cotton, nylon, etc). document the features.

google elevator pads. call a couple companies, ask for technical specs/sale guy to get same info from them on their standard pads.

compare...

if yours is approximately the same as a standard pad for light duty in the rest of the world, then the people who damaged it pay for it. if not, then perhaps you should seek redress with the people who sold you the first set of new pads.
