I'd like to give thanks to all my fellow "posters" for all the good advise, great opinions, thought provoking discussions and the occassional laughs. You're all a great bunch of people and I also give thanks to those of you who helped me keep my sanity during some very stressful HOA times.

Anna, Glen, Donna & Michele,

Thank you all for your warm wishes. Loved your quote, Glen.

I hope everyone had a grrr-ate Thanksgiving! Our Thanksgiving dinner was so good, we had a repeat performance yesterday - hot turkey sandwiches and all the trimmings. Now I'll have to think up a few more turkey recipes -- turkey pot pie; turkey tetrazinni; turkey w/penne pasta, turkey soup, etc., etc. LOL

Terry said that was his favorite mean when he was in the Marine Corps. He said he was the only one who liked it. I made it for him just last week.

Here's a little secret to turkey burn-out, take about half of the leftovers and freeze them. Then in a week or two you can have Thanksgiving all over again; which is a nice ready to heat meal during the crazy holiday season when you don't have time to cook.

Well, I happen to love SOS, especially the breakfast sos. . . which for those in the south is basically browned ground sausage meat in pepper gravy.

mmm--mmm--mmmmm.

But one of my husband's favorite "fend for ourselves" meals is shredded Armor Chipped beef in that same pepper gravy.

Hehe. No, just me. And it really ticks me off, too, because he continually gets all sorts of veterans junk mail, and I don't! Things like honorary memberships "just for vets," or special offers, "just for vets," and they always come in HIS name, not mine! DOH!

He thinks it's pretty funny.

Plus, he's about 8 years younger than I, so there's no way he was even eligible for military service during the Vietnam era, and many of these "special" offers are for Vietnam-era vets, which I am!

He did do something special for me one year, though. Our city put up a memorial in one of our parks for military, active duty, vets, both alive and deceased. He made a donation to the memorial and had my name, service (US Army Security Agency) and years of service engraved on a brick paver for the pathway through the memorial garden.

He just took me and the kids out there one day and we were walking around, then he stopped and said, "Hey, don't you know her?" and pointed down to the brick.

Needless to say, it made me cry and was probably the most special gift he has ever given me!

Michele,

I'm with your hubby; I love chipped beef with cream gravy! And, wow, we have something else in common. Many, many years ago I worked for the Army Sec Agency at their HQ in Arlington, VA. Small world, huh?

How many years ago? It would have to be quite a few because the Army Security Agency is now defunct, absorbed into Military Intelligence. In 1979-81 I was working as the USASA liaison with the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, MD, so if it was in that time frame, our paths may have indeed crossed!

Michelle and Mary... you're both examples of what it takes now, during these times, to make an Association run--and run properly. Guts, bravery, smarts, courage, discipline, respect, foresight, and honesty.

ALL tributes and expectations for Board Members....and required by the great military branches of our country.

Michelle...your story touched my heart.

Thank you, Anna! And the same goes for you.

I, too, was touched by Michele's story. Her hubby sounds like a real winner; what he did was sooo touching and loving. I have the deepest respect for all who serve, and have served, in our military services -- whether in peacetime or war. Not everyone is cut out for military service, so, IMO, those who make it through -- and especially those who stay in, are "a cut above".
