I live in a community that is connected to another community similar in size and design. I would like to investigate the possibility of merging the two communities. Initially I don't see any issues, only benefits. Does anyone have any experience in this process? How would I get started (after the boards approve)?

Mark, start investigating the merger of two HOAs by reading the both HOA's Declaration concerning items related to merging, terminating, and annexing. After this research and both Board's approve you should contact an experienced HOA attorney for assistance.
