This happened on an island, on a private Golf Course, the victim was visiting an island resident. All the emergency providers were either county responders or Members of the island Public Service District which is funded by the POA.

This is a true story and happened yesterday.

Just thought it presented some questions about a lot of things. Of course, the pun about half his right arm being gone is probably going to result in a pronounced pulled "Hook" when he is back playing golf., has already been taken. I do not know anything about the arm being attached,,,,,,,as yet.

Dear Property Owners:

At approximately 3:10 pm at the lagoon near the 11th tee on Ocean Creek a guest was reaching to retrieve a golf ball near the edge, when a large alligator grabbed the victim by his right arm. The victim was pulled into the water and the lower arm was avulsed. Bystanders pulled the victim from the water and he was transported to the Ocean Creek Club House.

911 and Security was notified Fripp Island Fire, Beaufort County EMS and security responded to the scene. Security personnel located the alligator and notified Wild Tracks, a wildlife capture service responded. The 10 foot alligator was captured, destroyed and the victim’s arm was removed from the stomach.

The arm was turned over to EMS. The victim and recovered arm were flown to the hospital.

The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.

Robert,

Living in South Florida, we dealt with this every day. Tourists sometimes ignore warning signs on the golf course and when the HOA owns or is partnered with the course, then the threat of a suit is always iminent. We put signs out daily and they got moved often----like this one---- "GATOR ON 12"

Luckily, with over 4 million gators, these bite cases are rare but anyone playing near water in any gator country MUST be aware that the creatures are there.

As a side note, no one that I ever golf with reaches anyplace for a ball. USE YOUR CLUB!!!

Yup, just happened here in my county two weeks ago. A lady was walking her dogs along a lake at a local park. Dumb move in the first place if anyone knows anything about alligators and dogs. She saw the water stir and started to run but slipped and fell. She ordered the command for the dogs to run and they did. So the gator got her instead. Gator grabbed her by the leg. Got her pretty good, too! Until she remembered to go for it's eyes and when she stuck her fingers into the eye sockets it finally let go.
