I am the VP on the board which was just elected. I am in charge of the committees we currently have such as Landscaping, Social, ARB, Directory and Newsletter. We are a Florida community of 140 homes. I am having a hard time recruiting volunteers for the committees. Many of the people who were on last year have not responded and some have dropped out all together. What can I do to motivate and recruit homeowners to take part in the committees. Your help would be appreciated.

Great Question, I've found that to build someone up before asking them to help usually works. For example, I like to ask the people that have the nicest looking yard on the landscaping committee, there are usually retired or semi retired executives that are great for bylaws, etc.. Past presidents are great to recruit and put on committees as well, newsletters or mailers are helpful as well, let all the residents know you need everyone to be involved, pot luck dinner meetings with spouses involved works good sometimes, it depends on the age and likes of your committee, remember try to make it fun, the work has to be done anyway.
