Not really but in December of this year, I will have completed a year s President of our modest HOA. Is it common/expected/? for the president at the upcoming December annual meeting to present a paper of some sort as to what went on during the year? A "sort of" state of the union thing... If so, how would/should it be written and what should it entail if it should be done at all

Alex I think it's a great idea and has been done here off and on over the years in different formats, narrative and a list. I've attached two samples from the past with names redacted.

Alex, we do it too. We make a list of all the accomplishments the board did for the association during the past year. We don't make it sound like we're patting ourselves on the back yet a lot of stuff is unseen by most people (like installing a new hot water heater for the washers).

Absolutely - cover what the board did last year, a currrent assessment of the issues today, and projects that need to be looked at in the future. You may not be the pres. for the next term, but at least you have given a state of the union.

Alex,

Excellent idea! However, thoroughly check your bylaws, you may find it's a requirement. FYI, from the bylaws of my former assn, under the article titled "Powers and duties of the BOD":

"cause to be kept a complete record of all of its acts and corporate affairs and to present a statement thereof to the members at the annual meeting of the members, or at any apecial emeting when such statement is requested in writing by members entitled to cast 1/4 of the Class A (members) votes."

Alex, It is a good idea to review activities of the past year. Also, a good idea to discuss plans for next year at each annual meeting while presenting the next year's budget to be ratified. That and election of Board members is always on any annual meeting agenda we prepare.
