We have 22,750 square feet of ironwork fence ranging in height from 4 feet to 5 feet 10 inches with 1/2 inch spokes spaced approx. 3 5/8 inches apart. Can someone who has had this work done give me an idea what you paid per square foot. This would include scraping, priming, and painting. Thanks.

Best bet might be to contact three local vendors and ask for bids.

Yes, John, we will be doing that later. I just wanted a ballpark idea as someone on this forum has certainly had this work done before.

Scot,

As you probably know, or will discover, exterior work such as this involves a bunch of variables specific to the project such as age, condition, type of material to be treated, grades of paint, access (such as lack of easy access), etc. that require being eyeballed. Good luck. It ain't gonna be cheap!

Exactly. Not to mention the fact that even if one of us did have some experience with a project like that, costs from area to area may swing widely.

No need to get snippy. People ARE trying to help...just not in the way you envisioned.

Well, have you called any companies in your area to see if they could quote you a ballpark figure (not legally binding...)? I know iron workers (not necessarily painters) are unionized (here in Colorado anyway), so if I had your question for my association, I would call the union hall to get a ballpark. Do painters have a trade association? Have you driven around your town to find similar fences? If so, you could ask those associations. Do you have any tradespeople in your association? Painters know plumbers who know carpenters who know drywall hangers who know sprinkler installers...

No problem asking but you should have asked for posters in your immediate area.
