Has anyone ever written a letter (or even in a newsletter) welcoming newcomers to the condominium community? I am looking for ideas/words that one might use to welcome new families to the community, how we can help, etc Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sure! It's been discussed here before. Some people have a welcome letter which describes the amenities; a list of the rules; and contact information for complaints and concerns.

I've read that some associations include local information for restaurants, movie houses and schools. Some go so far as to assemble and deliver a "welcome basket" with gift cards and.or small toys if they know children are moving in.

AnnaD,
You might try and do a search on this site for welcome letters or something like that.

I will caution it is better to tailor your correspondence to your association and it sounds like this is just the tip of an idea to get morew communication and information out. The Boiard should be directing this total effort, if that is the case.

I would also run in by a Newletter or e-mail blast when you get it done.......from experience there can be snags. No little woprd can be cause for discussion and more.

It is a good thing to do.

Alex,

Along with a welcome letter, we include a copy of our covenants, bylaws, a map of the local area, a pamphlet that is produced by our local township which lists local businesses, and a copy of our most recent newsletter. At that time, we also ask if the new resident wants to give us an emergency contact number. We are a 55+ community, many here live alone, and there have been times we have had to phone the contact number when there has been an emergency. Our procedure has been very well received by newcomers.

At minimum..... welcome letter, CCR, bylaws, next bill. If you dont want to print the bylaws/ccr, provide a URL for both on the welcome letter. Most people never get copies of these when they buy places. You need to provide them immediately so there is no misunderstandings in the future.
