My name is Tam.
Our new HOA Board was voted in this past April 2009. The editor of the news letter asked the New Peresident if he would write a letter to the residents. He accepted. The letter was turned in during a meeting and in the letter the prez stated "Kanaka Rapids is a beautiful place to live a from my view point all the residents work hard to keep their properties beautiful and well maintained". Bring this attention to the board that was present, they told him maybe he should delete that sentence because recently there have been numerous complaints on the apperance of certain properties and stuff laying around in peoples yards, and if he left that in the letter he'd might have a uprising of those who complained. The president did nothing and was not going to have the letter edited. But, he did take the liberty to contact some of his fellow worshipers that live in this community about the letter and how he was dictated to by the vice president and a board member. In return the presidents friend sent a "Confidential Letter" to a few chosen in the community to overturn the new board and keeping the present president. In the letter it states that the new vice president is a Kanatzi dictator.
Since the letter we had a HOA monthly meeting and these people tried to get one of the board members to resign so they could start appointing people they have hand picked. There are some that were sent this letter and were appaled and now the letter has become public to the community after that meeting. .
Along with this we have two residents that have been on the past boards years ago and were removed when the developer was involved with the HOA for being untruthful. Now these same people want to be on the board again. Can we have an open meeting and make this public to the new people that have moved here in the past 6 years?
A majority of us in the community are up in arms what to do.... Some say waite and it will go away, but these people did this 2 years ago and they won and our now beautiful rural area became weeds.

You just can't make this stuff up people. :-)

Tam, new board in April; what happened to the old one? From the sounds of it your association has its fractions due to the fact that it sounds like you had a board takeover 2 years ago.

This president was elected by the majority of the board, if they don't like him they can remove him, otherwise your "side" is in trouble.

You say that "a majority of us in the community are up in arms"; as long as you all stay the majority I don't see much happening as far as any of "your" board members being removed. It takes a majority of owners to remove a board member and a majority of board members to remove an officer.

Make sure your side does a good job on the board, gets things done and you'll stay in the majority. One question; if you folks (the good side) has the majority, then how did this "bad guy" become President?

Tamara - it's NOT about the letter . . .

Focus on the ISSUE. Your board needs a Grounds and Landscape committee to make recommendations to the board for how the neighborhood can continue to keep up its property values.

Perhaps your board needs to sponsor a drop off clean-up campaign. There are companies that come in and have huge containers that will accept junk of all kinds. "Got Junk?" is in my state.

Of course, the residents must get it to the pick-up site.

Personally, I would say if most people are maintaining their place and complaining about other people's property who dont, they ARE working hard to keep their properties beautiful along with other people's property. Seems like a truthful statement to me. Much ado about nothing.

Steve, that was my first reaction, too.

My feeling is that by putting that statement in the newsletter it could be an effective wake-up call for those who've recently gotten violation notices. In any given week there may be one or two members in violation of the CCRs, depending upon the size of your community it could be more or less. But to just look at those few properties and make a judgment call for the whole HOA is ridiculous. We have 1,702 homes spread out in 17 communities that comprise my assn. Overall we have a very well-maintained, attractive HOA community, regardless of the number of properties that might need some sprucing up. In fact we have a couple that are really bad.

Term was up in April and this new board was voted in.
The silent majority does not know how to deal with the worshipers who now are sending a petition around to a chosen few.

My view is if this keeps up a letter should go out to the community. Have a meeting, let the HOA state the facts of what happened at that agenda board meeting Then let the President state what he did and why. Have open comments and let the new BOD get on with their term and if anyone wants to resign then let it be.

There is only a few of us willing to try and take care of this sensibly. The BOD is up in arms with the President and are not sure how to handle this with him (including the worshipers that live in this community also).

Note: We are in very rural area in Idaho the houses built and lived in is just over 1/4 and the other owners are land owners, most who live out of state.

Tamara,

I don't think the board should do anything. And, why are they angry with the Pres.? He didn't start this, it was his friend, if I'm not mistaken. So what if the "silent majority" is sending a petition around. Doesn't anyone have the right to do that? I think this is an example of making a mountain out of a molehill. If the board holds a meeting to discuss this then they will just be playing into the hands of the trouble makers. Just my opinion, of course.

I'm betting this is a small assn. I can't see this happening in my assn of 1,702 homes, but I could very easily see it happening in my former assn of only 49 homes! Ever heard the saying, "small town, small mind"? Well, IMO, the same applies for small HOAs!!

Hi Mary,

I totally agree, except in my association. 19 units, and I think I might be the only who gives a rat's butt... And I don't care about those kinds of things (flag poles, garbage cans, color of your blinds, parking...). This would NOT happen in my SMALL TEENY association...

Answer to your question:

The vote in April was an official vote for new officers.

The "bad guy" just completed his home here and his Bio was ok. We had only 2 people running and the other person is not here all the time maybe 2 months out of the year.
