I'm new to the forum. I looked through the Active Topics that are listed, and wondered if there have been past discussions on the professionalism and attitude, speficically as it pertains between Board members and toward employees. There's a member that is informed, knowledgeable, yet know-it-all to the Board and alternately violatile, bereating, and well, bullying to Board and employees. Upon learning about some recent interactions, quite frankly I was stunned and taken aback. What have you done to address Board behavior (I'm not sure how else to put it)?

Lynn,

Half way down the list of threads is one called "Ethics Committee" Follow it down to the post by Don from Michigan. It is excellent and worth copying for your information. Don has all of the qualifications to post such great information.

First the president should have a one on one about this person's demeanor at board meetings and people skills. Then there is the option that his behavior could be censured by the board. Document ALL discipline discussions. You many need it to get him off the board later.

But my questions is, WHY is this board member talking to employees? Does he have the chain of command privilege to oversee paid staff?

ONE person should talk to paid staff, otherwise there are anywhere from 5 - 12 bosses that could be giving orders.
