Once a candidate has been elected to the BOD, when should that person be sworn in? .... It will be another month before the next general meeting....and they have not been sworn in as yet, are they considered an active board member without being sworn in?

Nancy,

After the ballots are all counted abd finalized, the winning candidates names are announced. Adjourn the meeting with the new Board members now being official. In Florida, the new Board then meets following the meeting to elect officer positions amoung themselves. Other associations may do it differently.

We don't swear in our newly elected Board members. However, once elected, they are frequently sworn at.

Unless your documents say that WHEN an elected person takes office, he/she is officially elected and can serve immediately. The swearing-in ceremony is just that.

Nancy,

I don't know that it's necessary to swear in newly elected board members. Frankly, I've never seen or heard of this being done. Once the elections are over and the winning candidates have been announced, they are considered board members. Usually they take office immediately. Some assn docs state the new board must meet w/i so many days to elect officers; oftentimes this meeting will occur immediately after the annual meeting.

Yeah, swearing in has never even come up at our meetings.

Though swearing usually does. . .

Michele,

Are you doing the swearing; are you being sworn at; or both? Inquiring minds want to know! LOL

We don't do an official 'swearing in' and try to limit 'swearing at'! Newly elected directors meet immediately and elect officers. That's it.

Hey Guys;

Thanks for the info.... Looks like we had a lot of un with this one... I agree, swearing "in or at" seems to be the "norm"

If there were a swearing in how would it be done? Left hand on the Association Documents; right hand in the air? Who would do the swearing in? The property manager? What would the WORDS be?
