Has anyone used a collection agency to collect on unpaid assessments? If so, can anyone recommend one in North Florida and what the results were?

We are looking into it right now. I'll let you know who it goes.

We tried a collection agency. After 30 days of no feedback, I contacted the 'collector' and he told me there was no way the homeowner was going to pay us. He was also rather rude about the whole thing!

I can't recommend the 2 others we tried to deal with. One said - no contract, nothing in writing. The other had a 5 page contract - without any protection for us.

That's my experience.

I own a business here in south Florida and I have used collection agencies in the past to collect from my past due clients, but I did it in cases where I had little hope of collecting anything.
Knowing that the past due client was being hounded by somebody...anybody, gave me a sense of satisfaction yes, but has never produced any real money. In cases where I did collect the agency took a huge cut.

Truth of the mater is homeowners who are in foreclosure by their banks can live in your community without paying dues because they know it's not worth your efforts to attempt to collect from them. To make things interesting the government is working hard to help those owners stay in their homes.

From what I have learned people who are in foreclosure by the banks are also filing for bankruptcy, so good luck on attempting to get anything out of them even after the house is sold.

What we need is to form an organization that can lobby the government to change the laws, but I don't see that happening either.
