We are revisiting our Swimming Pool Rules - We are currently very restrictive
No Floats of any kind
No Drinks of any kind
No Food of any kind
No Running, jumping, diving etc.

We are a 55+ community with 280 homes, but during the "season" have a lot of guests (grandkids) etc. and some renters.

Would like to allow little kids - under 6? to have arm floats but still want to keep tubes rafts etc out of the pool.

Would also like to allow soft drinks in cans/plastic (no glass/aloohol) because residents and guests bring them in anyway.

We currently don't even have a garbage receptacle in the fenced pool area.

Would appreciate any help or suggested pool rules - We are reprinting the pool rules signs.

Keep the "No Floats of Any Kind" rule!
Arm floats are extremely dangerous for children ..... if they are properly supervised they are not needed .... if not properly supervised -> lethal.

Plastic bottles and soda cans are fine .... they are not laceration hazards.

Post a "No Garbage Receptacle - Carry In / Carry Out" sign.

Post a "No glass of any Kind" sign.

No running, jumping, diving, etc. is SOP for most pools.

Bob, I have to sort of chuckle at your list of rules. Ours is enormous compared to yours! We have a four foot x three foot sign attached to the fence near the pool, which was made by a professional sign company. In addition we also have various signs on the fence and gate as follows:

PLEASE CLOSE UMBRELLAS WHEN LEAVING POOL AREA.

POOL IS FOR THE EXCLUSIVE USE OF RESIDENTS.
ALL VISITORS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A RESIDENT.

POOL CLOSES AT DUSK.

Now for the BIG list of rules. These are also included with the package all new residents receive.

BEHAVIOR THAT IS DEEMED INAPPROPRIATE OR DISRUPTIVE TO ANYONE IN, OR AROUND THE POOL AREA IS PROHIBITED

DIVING IS PROHIBITED.

NO OIL BASED PRODUCTS USED FOR SUNBATHING.

ALL OBJECTS MADE OF GLASS ARE PROHIBITED IN THE POOL AREA.

FOOD, DRINKS, AND SMOKING ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE POOL OR WITHIN FOUR FEET OF THE LEDGE.

TOYS, INFLATABLE OBJECTS AND OTHER ARTICLES SHALL NOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED IN THE POOL.

CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF SIXTEEN WHO ARE IN THE POOL OR POOL AREA MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT AT ALL TIMES.

ANIMALS ARE PROHIBITED FROM ALL POOL AREAS.

STREET CLOTHES MAY NOT BE WORN IN THE POOL. ONLY REGULAR BATHING ATTIRE IS PERMITTED.

SHOES AND COVER-UPS MUST BE WORN WHEN WALKING TO AND FROM THE POOL AREA.

DIAPERED BABIES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE POOL. PROPER BABY ATTIRE FOR POOL.

ALL GARBAGE MUST BE REMOVED AND PROPERLY DISPOSED OF.

THE POOL AREA CAN NOT BE USED FOR PRIVATE PARTIES WITHOUT PRIOR BOARD APPROVAL.

NO BICYCLES, SKATES, SCOOTERS OR OTHER TYPES OF STREET TOYS ARE ALLOWED IN POOL AREAS.

PLEASE STRAIGHTEN CHAIRS AND CLOSE TABLE UMBRELLAS WHEN LEAVING POOL AREA.

POOL HOURS: OPEN 8:00 A.M. CLOSES AT DUSK

NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY. NO DIVING.

All of these rules were written because they all actually were happening. Some of them are in place because of instructions from the Health Department. But most of them should just be common sense. One rule we DID take out was the one that said: PLEASE SHOWER BEFORE ENTERING POOL. That one always got a lot of flack because people didn't appreciate being questioned about when they last showered. I have to agree. Hope this list helps you a little bit.

no floats of any kind??? let kids be kids!

Your rules are too restrictive. You are restricting fun in my opinion.

Joel, believe it or not, a LOT of pools do not allow floats. They restrict people from actually swimming and people don't appreciate getting whacked with them when "kids are being kids". One lady in our complex actually bought her unit because we do NOT restrict floats. She thought she could leisurely float in the shallow end, or by the edge. But after living here she wishes that we DID restrict them. Our pool is not large enough to accodate four or five kids with floats in the pool. One kid has a blow-up boat... and runs all over women trying to do their pool exercises.

The problem is... they will bring in glass anyway and how can it be enforced? If they bring in glass, do we just say do not do it again and they laugh?
