There is an open seat on our HOA board. I'm pretty new here so I'm not well known, but have spoken to a few neighbors who say one of th problems is no one wants to run. Well, I do! My question is:
Is it ok for me to go door to door and let people know I would like to be write in on the ballot and give them my name?

I'm not sure how all this works but once I can get on the board I can see why we never have any money to fix anything. :-)

The ballot needs to be in by the 22nd of April. Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Marlene,

Am I to believe you've already recieved notice of the annual meeting along with a ballot filled with candidate's names? If so, I see nothing wrong with doing as you say. Another thing you can do is have a friend nominate you from the floor; that is is that is allowed in your bylaws. However, depending upon the size of your community it really may be a wasted effort. How many votes would you need to be elected and do you think you can contact that many people and convince them to vote for you? I must ask why didn't you express your interest to run so that your name could have been placed on the ballot?

I didn't request my name to be on the ballot because I didn't know I could. :-( But on this ballot there is a place for a write in since someone left. There are only 31 homes in our HOA. I already have 5 or 6 votes, including my own. So I wanted to go door to door, introduce myself and ask to be written in. I just didn't know if it was allow or not.

Thank you
Marilene

Marilene,

So, what you're really saying, is that the BOD did not appoint a Nominating Committee for the purpose of soliciting candidates. That's really sad especially if it's been a chore to get candidates. I doubt there is any law that says you cannot go door-to-door to solicit votes. In fact, if you are allowed to use proxies, you could get proxies from members and vote them all for yourself! I'm glad to hear you're in a very small community so it won't be such a hard endeavor to reach every members in the assn. Good luck!!

Absolutely you should let everyone know you are a write-in candidate.

I suggest that you study your CCRs and bylaws and learn to read a finanacial report. Ask for the board minutes from the last year. The end of year financial report should be distributed to the members at the annual meeting. Try to get this ASAP so you are an informed board member at the first board meeting. Good luck!

Absolutely you "can" go door-to-door and try to garner the votes.

Remember, this is YOUR association, regardless of how new you are!

Good luck to you!
