Our CCTV was installed over a year ago or more. One of our homeowner's had a petty theft of a car cover be stolen from our common area garage and is insisting that we view the cctv. To be honest without a specific time frame.. the generality is that it happened overnight.

Is it really the boards responsibility to view the cameras.. trying to see who stole a car cover??

I would do it out of kindness.

If anything, he'll contact the police and they may request it or if it becomes a case, they may even subpoena it.

If it's a newer system (which it sounds like yours is), it will only record when there is movement, and these recordings are pretty easy to find.

What is the point in having CCTV if not to protect the members and property? What a waste of dues to purchase the equipment if it isn't used to its fullest capabilities.

Well, the way it looks now is that you purchased the CCTV to spy on the residents. Clearly you don't want to use it to protect their property. Absolutely the resident should get some access to the video. I would guess that you would be able to find the area of interest in a hour or two.

If nothing else, let him suffer through finding out if it captured usable video.

Actually Kirk.. the cctv's were installed due to trespassers breaking into our pool area and using it all hours of the night. We also had vandalism to our lobby area. that in itself is why we have voted and approved cctv. Not to petty theft. However, I am setting up the dvr so the homeowner can go through the 12 hours or so of tape....

Not that big of a deal; find the point where they noticed it was gone and go backwards from there. Unless it had been gone for weeks without the H/O noticing it should be quick to find.

Studies show that 5 out of 4 people have problems with fractions

How often do you all use CCTV in your communities? We are thinking of adding and was wondering if anyone here has advice on where to start to look for a reputable company?
