Certain HOA correspondence will not be sent to our (or any) PO Box by the Commonwealth, so I volunteered my address for those few occasions. No big deal.

Assume that addy is:

XX HOA
c/o JohnK3
26 Peppermint Stick Lane
Candyland, PA 19999

The other day, I received a post with an enclosed opened envelope addressed to me from a kind soul who stated ā€œI believe this belongs to you. How it arrived here is a mystery.ā€

Her addy is:

Sandy Lollipop
26 Peppermint Stick Lane
New Rockville, AK 31234

In her note, she also mentioned the former name of her town had been New Candyland, but had been changed to New Rockville decades ago.

The letter to me had been sent from Harrisburg, our capital. I figure the PO would toss it into an intra-PA pile and it would move on from there. I also figure nobody at the PO would be aware of a decades-gone burb. I also figure a zip code carries some weight in the sorting process, automated or otherwise.

Any thoughts on why it ended up in Arkansas? Like Sandy, I’m mystified.

That's a real puzzler - nothing jives except the street name.

I get othe people's mail all the time, but there are obvious clues as to why.

Your situation beats me.

I'm presuming it was correctly addressed to you, so my best guess would be a glitch in the bar code at the bottom of the envelope that is used by the sorting equipment at the Post Office. When it got to AK I doubt if the mail carrier looked at anything other than the street address.

Studies show that 5 out of 4 people have problems with fractions
