There has been a CAI member complaining about his board and the way they do business. The President of his association has now made the news. A fellow owner in his association ran for President and lost.

Pretty amazing what some people will do to keep a job that doesn't even come with a compensation package. Well, a legal one anyway, who knows if any compensation was gained. But I guess the police might find that out.

Hmmmmmm. There's famous, and then there's infamous. Either way, it can make the news.

From my recall of 1st year CrimLaw (but that was some time ago, and state statutes vary), looks like both burglary and theft for starters.

And maybe some self-esteem/delusional issues?

Which or whatever, I'd say this goofball (and perhaps Mrs. Goofball) have their proverbial chest body parts in the wringer if law enforcement elects to pursue the issue.

Or if the victim files a complaint? Assuming the DA believes the evidence is there, doesn't he then have to pursue it?

Bruce,

One of the swell (and powerful) accoutrements of being a local/state/fed prosecutor is that one gets to choose what to pursue. Until chosen, 20 witnesses to a (potential) crime don't mean jack.

I wasn't referring to the number of witnesses. Just whether the filing of a complaint had anything to do with it. Maybe not. I guess if the DA were to pursue everything, he'd need a big staff and a big budget.

I was trying to copy and paste your article without any luck. What exactly are these members complaining about that the police are in on this?

I just found the article. Thanks anyway. I will be surprised if the police do anything about this.

Well, I found the video newsworthy. I doubt it will result in criminal charges but it sure could, and I am not sure the lady that lost the election might not have some civil grounds. It also could be looked upon as entrapment, I suppose.

My real interest would be to see how this all played out and how it changed the Condo association. I was annoyed that some owners felt it necessary to move as opposed to stay and get involved. After all they were all harmed if this whole thing has credibility. Even the ones that supported the elected president.

Robert,

No, it wouldn't be entrapment. Entrapment is when you get someone to do something illegal that they wouldn't otherwise do so you can catch them in the act. Merely catching someone in the act of doing something illegal with a video camera is not entrapment. I don't believe the victim encouraged this guy to try to steal ballots from under her door. That could make it entrapment. I think he thought this one up all by himself.

It remains to be seen what, if anything, will happen.

Bruce,
I agree. But I am pplaying devils adovocate and from my wife's experience from years of banking, entrapment, or the suggestion of entrapment has to be considered. I am curious why your post specified "a CAI" member, if I am not mistaken. Was this mentioned in the News story?

Robert,

It was not I that mentioned a CAI member. The OP did.

The CAI member is not the one that videotaped the President. I mentioned the CAI member because this individual has been posting about the problems with his board for several years on the CAI Message Board. The person that videotaped the President is a fellow neighbor of his. It wasn't until after I put my initial post here that I saw the story also listed on the home page of this website.

Apparently since the story broke a new "big Wheel" investigative reporter is now reviewing the case. I'm not sure whether or not this reporter is related to Carl Bernstein or Bob Woodward.

It seems that the local League of Women Voters is involved in the ballot count and that Ms. Hack (the woman that ran and lost) is looking to file charges against the President.

It will be interesting to see just how far all this goes.

Robert, I hold no grudge to those that cut and run. I look at all the time and effort I have put into our association and really wonder why I'm such an idiot to stay and try to repair it. The are a million places to live so why stay in a place with so much animosity, turmoil and upside down finances. (Actually, our finances will get better over time. But still.......... )
