I would like to share this with all those who feel that change is well.. not possible.

Our board has had a pretty tough past with one person in particular who was on the board made life a sheer hell for some of us. Our board was elected in April of this year and this person was re-elected. The main difference this year was our madame president who has held her position for the past 5 years ( yes, that is a story in itself don't ask ) was asked to hand her position to someone else. Time for a change.

We got someone who runs our meetings according to agenda only. Follows Roberts Rules. The things that we DON"T do anymore? Our board does not exchange emails discussing board business.... our president now only forwards pertinent stuff for meetings ( bids ) and communicates with the entire board. This was NOT being done by the past President.

None the less, the man who was a sore in the backside who was still on the board kept talking out of turn, trying to speak to ho's during open session, often argued badly during open session executive session. We as a whole decided NOT to put up with this anymore. It' was not proactive.. and very distracting. Every time this man attempted to vear off the subject, interrupt or argue it was stopped, nipped in the bud and guess what? HO's actually asked him to be quiet and let THEM talk during open floor! We didnt' gang up on him, but what we did was NOT accept his really horrible behavior ( too much to go into detail ) His last email to the board threatend us with a lawsuit due to him not sharing an approval to move forward. We as a group ignored him......

He now hasn't been to a board meeting in 3 months straight., next month we are going to officially motion to remove him per our docs.

Don't let individuals monoplize your meetings... and remember that the HOA's are best to stick to your meetings like a business meeting.... and don't let someone speak on the boards behalf unless it's the president..

Our Board is still transisitoning, but with people who are actually willing to work together and not point fingers, call names or pass blame. That boy didn't play well in the sand box. The best response to people like this is ignore and they sometimes go away.

Francesca,

It's always good to hear a success story. Thanks for sharing! Sounds like the change in leadership was a very good move. Not to mention the handling of the loud-mouth board member. Hope you are successful in getting him removed from the board altogether.

Keep up the good work!
