Just a brief note to see if anyone out there would be interested in writing a book on how to survive the apathy , Good Ole Boy's Club mentality etc., etc in HO associations.
Off hand candidate chapters might include the following:
Candidate Chapters:

Do Nothing BOD
Apathy vs. Enthusiasm
Unqualified Program Managers
Not Invented Here Syndrome
WPA-We Poke Along
Closed Meetings
Budgets Out Of Control
Reserves Gone Wild
Newsletter Control
Committees
Board Members or Lack Thereof
Cliques

Any comments would be welcome

Beware if it was black widow or a brown recluse!!! Black widows are very common out here in AZ. Do you think that's why we have so many HOAs??? LOL

You have identified the problems to be addressed. When you begin preparing the answers, I think I would include- chardonnay and the ear of a good friend.

You could add - somehow we ended up with a president who doesn't believe in our existence.

As luck would have it, "someone" has already written such a book.

Her name is Gloria Martinez (she posts on this site), and the title of the book is "A Guide To Community Living."

In the interest of full disclosure, I have purchased and read the book and I highly recommend it to board members and homeowners alike.

It is published by PublishAmerica and its ISBN is: 1-4137-2634-8.

I forget how much it cost, but it would make a nice addition to New Board Member Packets. . . .

In addition, there is another book that may be much the same.

Homeowners Associations: A Nightmare or a Dream Come True?, Greenwalt, Joni, 1997: Denver Colorado, Cassie Publications.

The author is described as a "Resident and the president of a homeowner association in a happy community."

The book is described as: "Do you thrive or barely survive in a community governed by an association? With humor, philosophy, and down-to-earth facts, this guide offers real-life scenarios and solutions."
