If a new member of the board is voted in, when does the office take effect? Is it the night of the vote or is it the new fiscal year? Our fiscal year is Jan. 1,

Jose,
Your documents will cover this but usually, the election is the beginning of the new Board or Officers having the position. In Florida, immediately after an election, the entire Board including the new electees retire into a private session where they vote amoung themselves as to what position they will fill. Electing a President or V.P or Treasurer is not how we do elections. We elect Board Members and they decide who fills what position.

If an election is only voting for 1 Board member and say, it is the President position, being a new electee, the Board usually does not give that Presidency to the new kid on the block. "Not usually" are the keys words here but it can happen.

In our HOA, the election for officers and then 5 board members is held at the Annual Meeting, but the current Board finishes that meeting.

The first meeting of the new Board must meet within 2 weeks. All this is in our bylaws.
