Now this is a creative idea!
City uses DNA to fight dog poop...
I wonder how long it will be before the first homeowners association requires DNA sampling of dogs.

But what I like most about it is the reward side as well as the punishment side. Somebody has their head on straight in Petah Tikva.

Nice in theory but who will pick up the cost of this? I'd rather pay some person a wage to pick up the stuff rather than incur the cost of this. Getting everyone into a data base would be expensive. What's this world comming to.

That is hilarious! My husband once joked about this. This would sure take the have to catch the person in the act out of things.

Oh my goodness…don’t let the Cook County Board (Chicago) hear about this! They’re the ones who passed the foie gras ban, tax for bottled water…..

But, seriously, our high fine schedule is due to the dog poop problem on our property. ($100/250/300). It has successfully reduced the problem over the years. Or, perhaps shifted it elsewhere!

I am thinking this could be an episode on "Dirty Jobs." Mike can go collect feces from the trash to see who gets a reward. Of course along the way he can also take some DNA samples from the dogs.

Bonnie, I think you are right about the "solution" being that it is no longer in your HOA's grass. I suspect some other HOA would love to be able to fine people living out of their jurisdiction.

I watch alot of reality crime shows and it costs thousands of dollars to get a human DNA sample.

Kirk,
TOTAL NEW CONCEPT--DIRTY JOBS episode. I am sorry but I see this as about the same as the rotten kids issue. Ya have to catch them in the act. In Florida, they already have the "condo comandos" who know what time you turn on your bathroom lights so we should hire some of those folks to earn a few extra bucks.

Now before all of you Florida people get on me for this, I have had 7 Florida condos in different associations and if you are honest, admit that there is one in every complex (sometimes more) For sure

Reminds me of something I heard a while back:

If there is always one weirdo on every bus, how come I can never find him?

Something anybody should think about before jumping on Donna.

Kirk – for some dog owners, I am sure you are right. And, those HOs in our sister HOA may be sending their poop to us! Actually, if there was a problem, the 2 Boards would discuss and come up with a solution. We have 2 condo HOAs which when combined with the single family homes, comprise a Master HOA.

Our Board does not have to catch a dog owner in the act (of not picking up the poop) to send them a violation notice/hold hearing/find guilty/fine. Many times they find the poop outside the HO patio or front door, confirm there is a dog, and the HO then gets the violation notice. I am not saying this is right – it is what they do.

Dang, I would have asked, "Why do I always find him?"

I don't know, all my life I have been a weirdo magnet I guess. Maybe birds of a feather and I just don't realize.

Donna, if they can pin the poop to the dog through DNA then I would say they no longer need to catch them in the act. But this has to be expensive if worthwhile. (I read where in Britain the standard is a five point match and leaves several hundred people matching a given person's DNA.)

But I question how well it will work because they are relying on people voluntarily giving up samples of their dogs. And the only people who will do that are those who are being falsely accused. (Well and the really stupid ones I suppose.) In our country the prosecution has the burden. And my lack of giving them DNA can't be considered.
