Well, late in the afternoon yesterday we were hit by IKE. Quite scary I must admit. We did have hurricane force winds at 75 miles an hour.

We had limited damage to our home, some screens flew off the windows, my garden trellace was broke in half. We live on the front road and some caps for the picket fence on common elements came flying towards our house. Garbage everywhere and most of it is garbage that has flown from the neighboring communities. Time to go pick up and repair all of this today.

Alot of homes lost siding and there was one tree down, just so happened to be the slum lords. Common elements look great though.

Most here are without power and our community has it. Schools are shut down because of power loss. The city looks to be more of a mess than us, so we faired OK.

Anyone else hit?

Tamara,

I feel for you. I remember cleaning up after a hurricane when we lived in Baton Rouge (glad we weren't there this year!).

On another note: I meant to reply to your other thread in which you mention "slum lords". Just FYI, a slum lord is a person who owns slum property or lets his property fall into disrepair so that it looks like a slum and rents it that way, not a person who rents to individuals who don't take care of property. A big difference! :-)

Thanks Mary, if I am using the wrong term then I apologize. I don't know what lease he writes with his tenants, but know that he is responsible for his property in our governing documents regardless of who he rents too. This is why I refer him to a slum lord. He holds ultimate responsibility for his property.

Just a reference to this guy and IKE: I don't know if he has further intentions and can only assume he does not because of past experience. - His tree snapped in half, no roots left on it so he picks it up and sticks it back into the ground. Maybe he thinks we won't notice..... lol all I hear is chain saws today, because people are responsibly taking care of their downed trees across from us. Knowing him, he will not replace the tree until he is violated and faced with a fine. He is not into spending the money on his property, just collecting it.

We had some wicked mauling as well.

We lost our electricity around 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning and it just recently came on.

However, there are still over 300,000 customers in our community without power and it's expected to take anywhere from 10 to 14 days to get everyone up and running.

We have had lots of trees down, with some people of questionable common sense BURNING the debris in their yards!!

We had sustained 50 MPH winds with gusts up to 78 MPH.

I can only imagine what it must have been like for those in Texas right at the brunt of landfall!
