What are the laws/rules for towing autos from homeowner's assigned parking spaces?
Two cars were towed from homeowner's parking spaces, without warning.
The vice-president had signed a contract with a towing company, giving them the right to tow immediately any auto with even as little as a flat tire.

Why were they towed? I am assuming they gave some reason (even if it was after the fact)?

Their should be a paragraph/ clause inyour neighborhood bi laws that reflect the towing of automobiles. I would check your protective covenants to see if they make reference to that. Also check with your local code enforcement office as to the city codes or town and county codes. This could get real tricky. Their are so many different people enforcing rules and regulations.
Now if their is no such stip. in your covenants and no city/town or county code and your community did not have a majority vote to elect this new rule than the vice president of your HOA has a lot of explaining to do both verbally and financially

We just researched this issue, and the attorney stated do not tow until you have rewtitten the covenants to state that towing will be one of the Boards options. Of course changing the convenants will require a designated % vote of the members.

What state do you live in? California has specific laws about towing in CID's. I'm sure most states do as towing is a lucrative business.

What are the laws/rules for towing autos from homeowner's assigned parking spaces? This happened in South Florida.

Two cars were towed from homeowner's parking spaces, without warning. The cars had expired reigistrations stickers.

The vice-president had signed a contract with a towing company, giving them the right to tow immediately any auto with even as little as a flat tire.
He did not run the contract by the reat of the board, nor did he send copies to all homeowners, after he signed it into effect.

In Ohio you must have a sign stating where the car can be retreved and a sign stating no parking or announcing why a car will be towed if park here! This can cause the association a mountain of trouble when a car is towed.
