We are a small association with a new board. The developer just turned this association over to the residents and we are looking at software to manage everything. Does anyone have any information on what software works good for their association. Are the web based companies worth the money, or is it better to buy the software and store it on a local computer? What has worked for your association?

Hi Steve,

We are a small HOA and we just purchased Tops (now called 212 Software) you can e-mail Nicole at: [email protected] and they will be able to send you a sample CD. You can choose to have the accounting done outside or inhouse either way, they have the software for it. I like it and highly recommend it (personally).

I would recommend you register for a free level account at regenesis.net. They have a listing of software that will be of interest to you.

Steve: TOPS is hands down the best using our TOPS which resides in our MC hands I have personally built 12 budgets thats how good it is. Hire a MC and get access vis the net and have them make you packages for every meeting monthly quaterly or what ever. Its self checking and next to impossible to cheat with it.
Good Luck
Happy Birthday America!

We are using mycomplus.com software. A complete solution, inexpensive, in the cloud technology and intelligent data gathering technologies. Simple point and click for an idiot like me.

I just looked at mycomplus.com and tried the demo. No disrespect, but it all seems kinda useless. It doesn't really do anything useful.

Charles,

I agree with Steve. I believe that the same thing can be done with other products and/or methods.

We use a word processor to create mailing lists, make newsletters, minutes, etc.

Question - for disclosure purposes, are you invested with that company beyond just being an end user?

Nope. Not vested. The demo site doesn't do what the software really does. Seems they do not have a great demo site. I just viewed it as well. That is not even close to what it does.

No screenshots, no video, demo doesn't show what the product can do? Great way to sell a product. LOL. I'm really not interested in a product I cant see.

I suggest you contact them and let them demo it for you. They came out and did a complete demo of the product. And even allowed all the BOD and members to ask questions.
There was not enough space in our 1500 squarefoot office building

You should start with a FREE Yahoo! Group ( http://groups.yahoo.com/ ) and then decide where you want to go from there.

I'd avoid installable software. That's the past, not the future. Go for a web-based solution.

I agree, stay away from software that is installed on a PC. Use a software that is cloud based. That is why we decided to go the way we did.
I spol\ke to them over at mycomplus today and they agreed the demo site sucked and did not represent their ability. They said they were taking the demo site down and if anyone wanted to see a live demo, they would do a live conference on a live database to demonstrate the software.

Does http://www.mycomplus.com do anything with accounting, budgets or reserves?

I have found many providers that provide a package with site templates, forums, e-mail blasts, calendar, PDF document storage, login accounts and even maybe online payment of dues. But I've found few HOA sites that do accounting, budgets or reserves.

It's such a nuisance to deal with these "call me for a demo" providers. It's not really worth the bother since there are so many of them.

I managed to find something on the web site that answers my question:

Accounting
- Select cash or accrual accounting by community
- Home owners can view their accounts online
- Accept payments online using credit cards, debit cards, e-checking, or process checks and payments manually
- Produce computer or manual A/P checks (Currently in development)
- Maintain a full vendor history of all invoices and payments made (Currently in development)
- Print hundreds of professional reports to your printer, or export them to PDF, HTML, or DOC formats.
- Enter bank charges to check register and update general ledger automatically
- Issue notice to place liens automatically for late payments
- Automatically print lien papers for filing

Sadly, it doesn't mention budget or reserves even once, though.

What is the initial cost of the TOPS package? We are a small association and I don't want to waste their time if it is way out of our budget.

Thanks.
