I have been given approval by our ARB to remove a Pine tree 5' cir & 50' tall because of Pine Beetles extending 6' up the tree and the tree leaning. Another Pine tree was topped out by lighting, it is still 30' tall and is now decaying at the top with lots of woodpecker holes, I have removal permission. I was not given permission to remove a 4' cir Pine tree which has uplifted my driveway very badly and is within 4 feet of a live oak which it is not allowing to grow on the side near it. The live oak is over 20' tall the pine 40' tall. I also have 6 other Pines very close to my home & driveway 3-4'cir I wanted to remove them and was denied. All of the tress are very tall over 30-40'. I wanted to remove the Pines, plant a live oak or 2 and repave the driveway. I would like to know what are my rights if the good Pines fall on my home during a storm since I have been denied removal permission. All of the trees are on my property (1.2acre)and I have over 20 very large Pines left. I was told to cut the roots on the Pine uplifiting the driveway near the oak and put a gravel driveway down instead of pavement. My home will not blend with gravel I want a paved driveway but do not want to waste my money if the trees cannot be removed. Up until this ARB board pines were allowed to be removed. I have only lived in this home for 6 years and it is 20 yrs old.

Drill a 3/4 inch hole at the very base of the tree into the center and fill it up with either round up or salt.

Christine,
Those of us who live with these kind of pine trees only know what a nuisance they can be. They go down first in the hurricanes and diseases just love them, not counting the beetles. I think that your ARB made a mistake in the denial of removing the ones that you asked to have removed. Can you appeal? That would be my first try. A major trim job might help some if they will not rehear your application.

Call me dumb, but why can't you get permission to remove diseased or property-damaging trees, when you have a tree replacement plan already?

Is there something special about the "screen" that these trees provide? Anyone with the littlest knowledge of trees knows that they need removal and replacement when they are that old.
