Hello all, my hoa board finally have appointed it's officers at our last meeting. I am pleased it went so well. But this was an odd request.

Our ex president was having side conversation with our manager and stated.. "well I have been the acting president and acting tresurer for the last 3 years, that is the way I have always done it" Our board FYI had an appointed treasurer... obviously he didn't have to be responsible within it's role! That is in the past and will not be done again..

The odd thing? The ex president was asked to serve as the Treasurer. She stated she would but wanted to "share" some of my responsibilities of being secretary! WTF!!! I was a bit annoyed. I told her no she may not but she can go ahead and tend to the HOA's website as she always has.

Is this odd?? I find it just plain weird as a request to "share" a role with someone because she wanted to be secretary but wasn't vote in. Our ex president has has a poor history of follow through, fragemented communication AND it was obvious she took on way too much. For roles to be asked to be shared when we have a full operational board is just freaky deaky.

Is the Secretary's role an appointed or elected one?

What jobs does she want to "share" with the Secretary?

Don't you have job descriptions written for these positions?

Sec - Treasurer is a common one person job, but it is OK'ed by the Board.

And finally: as long as the job gets done, who cares who does it? Let her lick the stamps for the mailings, if she wants

I say work with her if she wants to do more. I would think treasurer could be boring, so if there are aspects of the secretary position that are appealing to her, then work something out with her.

We have the opposite problem, nobody wants to participate! I wish we had people who were volunteering to do more.

You certainly don't have to, but to maintain a good working relationship it would be nice.

You know that would be fine in most cases, but considering the poor past perfomance of this person with no follow through, talking about doing a newsletter for months.. it never happened. I am really reluctant to assign anything other than stamp licking to this person. My answer is no.. she will not share my role.. if she doens't like what she is doing.. I won't mind the door hitting her in the big bum of hers. ( yes.. she is annoying. )

Irene,

I sure don't blame you for not wanting to share your role, especially with this type of person. We all know them, everything is a great idea and yes, they will do it but it's all chit chat...they never come through. I haven't a clue why this is. Whenever I give my word it means something.
