I will say that we all have some story that is over the top or just hysterical. We could all us use a good laugh.. Although being an HOA is serious business and so much legality goes into it you have to admit there are some odd or funny situations posted here! Free booze or buy a ballot for your annual. That is hysterical.

I will say that we have a BOD who is an anger monger. He just isn't a happy person, acts on his own on our behalf which usually means we have to correct his attempts.. trying to speak on the board behalf when we had no idea about what he is trying to deal with..

This happened. THe man above took it upon himself to head a big big project at our complex, he printed posters, hung out witht the workman ect. ( Verizon FiOs installation to be specific... 60+ unit buidling it was ALOT of work! ) This man buddied up with the installers and "took care of them" WITHOUT board knowlege. When our monthly meeting came he brought reciepts for the printing materials and ink and paper.. which is more than ok. He actaully took took out a peice of paper with loads of reciepts on it... and a total at the bottom.. $350. He said to the rest us.. also I would like to let you know that I took care of the workers lunches on behalf of HOA. The look of shock was on eveyone's faces.. this man really thought he had carte blanche with our funds! He motioned to approve his reimbursment which was quickly followed by me declining this and several others. He picked up his atache or brief case and said.. I will be contating my atty.. be prepared.. I will get my money back.

It was hysterical.. and after he left I could only laugh at this antics. BTW..his lunches included meals at Alcapulco with a bar tab.

SERIOUSLY PEOPLE LIKE THIS EXIST AND THEY ARE ON HOA BOARDS.. LOL

Oh I forgot to say that I did tell the man he is free to contact his atty if he so wishes, but that consultation alone may cost him more than what he is trying to get back.. Sometimes individuals just loose all insight of what they look like to others.. lol

People who threaten to contact their attorney seldom do. They think they will get their way with a threat. Someone asked me can I sue? I told them you can sue anyone for anything but that doesn't mean you will prevail and you will be out big bucks for attorney fees if you don't have a reasonable case.

Nothing funny comes to mind in our hoa but some sad tales on the behavior of some owners. Shooting ducks on our lake, a person pulling off some siding on her neighbors whose property was in disrepair and stuffing paper up her dryer vent, threatening the other neighbor saying she would report her for having 3 dogs instead of 2 if she didn't sign to approve her ARC. Some people are just full of bile. I hope we do see some funny posts..we could use it.

Funny? Hmmmm...no, I can't think of anything funny, either. Unless you can count one board member who came to the meeting so drunk that he fell asleep on the table. Then he denied ever being at the meeting. But we had a great time telling him he "voted" for things that we didn't actually have on the agenda.

We had a board president who wanted to add a rule prohibiting any vehicle over 9000 lbs from parking in driveways. Unfortunately his own SUV was well over that. So he attempted to ban his own vehicle.

I love the one about the drunk board member.. that no doubt could happen!

Here is something I just almost could jump up and down about.

The original posting of my headache board member. The one who did happy hour with our vendors and tried to expense it to us... well I just got an email from realtor. He sends me updates on new MLS listings. I just got his most recent a few hours ago.

The PIA board member just listed his unit for sale.. and it's listed really really low!

I have a really funny story which I think I posted once b/4 , but will do so again since Irene asked!

The neighborhood was being plagued by teenagers (we think!) coming through late at night throwing eggs at the houses and cars. (Eggs eat the paint off the car!) My husband and several other h/o's decided to sit out late at night in the hopes of catching the culprits. My husband and 3 other guys stationed themselves in bushes at the park that was close to the main entrance to the s/d. The board Pres and 2 other guys were hidden in the bushes near the back entrance to the s/d. At about 2 AM a young girl came jogging down the street, entering the s/d at the main entrance. As she approached the park she spied one the guys, sitting in a lawn chair behind a large bush, and gave out a shriek. My husband said in a low voice, "Don't be afraid, we won't hurt you." At that, she screamed again and took off in the direction of the back entrance. As she approached that area, she saw the other 3 guys, who were now in the street after having heard the commotion at the park. She screamed again and "flew" out the back entrance. Although she wasn't the "egger" we never had anymore incidents of egging and never saw anymore late night women joggers!

That is funny Mary! LOL

I wasn't in my complex when this happened and it was years ago. The cars in the garage where getting broken into. Since we have secured parking this was questionable if someone in the building was doind it.

A couple of guys in the building decided to hold an ambush. They camped out in a parked care until about 3ish.. and they called via cell phone 911.. caught the culprits and YES.. THEY LIVED IN OUR BUIDLING. IMAGINE THE LOOKS ON THIER FACES WHEN THE COPS PULLED UP AND THE GARAGE DOOR OPENED.. LOVE TI LOVE IT LOVE IT.

That's what great about cell phones with photo capabilites. Criminals can be caught in the act. "Camping out" is another great way to catch these thugs. Even if it is done sporadically what do they know. Congrats to your guys.

Glad you had a response by the law. We are in Jacksonville, Fl and don't get such response. We live in a townhome community in Jacksonville, FL and in the early am my daughter saw two young men walking down the street with lawn chairs over their heads. She called the authorities and their first question was "what color were they"? Too funny..she said I told you they had chairs over their heads. How many guys would be walking in the early hours with chairs over their heads? I don't recall if anyone came out or not but that is not new in this area.

Another time she saw some older teens late at night dressed in black and carrying what appeared to be pillow cases and called. If I recall they did at least come out and check but to no avail. It is so important to let all homeowners know to stay on the alert on what is happening here and report strange happenings and pass it along to other owners. Law enforcement can't be everywhere...just wish we had more (or any) men to camp out.

We had an accidental fire alarm that went off at 3am a few years ago. One of our homeowners who is a lovely lady who likes to tip the wine a bit was PLASTERED! She showed up downstairs in her pj's with sheep print and was so inebriated she tried to talk to the firemen about the incident and all they could say was " someone has been drinking tonight!"

We had a homeless man move into our stair well.. and well he used the bathroom in our stairwell. Human feces is not a pleasant thing to see is a health hazard and needed a clean up immdiately. I called our manager at the time and he said we will get the cleaners out asap. It was 6 hours later and the mess was still there. I called the manger again and he actually argued with me hat the poo was gone. I sent him a digital pic with me cell phone to prove my point.... how can a manager who's office is 40 miles away tell me there is no poo in my stairwell? Digital cameras on cells are amazing!

Most recently? The board member who has made our lives hell.. pushing for the presidency position on our board, acting rude, out of order and not following our rules and the DSA? The dude who want to make our building more financially sufficient? HE IS THE ONE WHO JUST PUT HIS UNIT ON THE MARKET FOR A SHORT PAY... CAN'T MANAGE HIS OWNE FUNDS? THINK I WANT HIM MANAGING MINE?
