Our new HOA BOD was just elected last week and we had an very unusual campaign this year. I myself mailed out flyers, one girl went knocking door to door and update homeowners on some very important things and another decided to run in a block of 4 on a Dream Team HOA approach. It was the most brutal I have seen in all my years here.

There was lots of chatter of this wrong doing by yadda yadda ect. My campaign was "i'd like to see our HOA held to a higher standard". it worked I was voted in, and so was the other yahoos who had issued with everyone else Our board is the SAME as the last years with the exception of one of our member being beat out by someone who as a newbie this year

I was approached tonight by my immediate neighbor who hasn't spoken to me in a few weeks due to my being out of town. She said who won the HOA? I verbally told her the results and she said, "I don't know how to tell you this, but someone came to by door telling me not to vote for you! " I said it didn't matter but who was it? It wa someone who actually spoke to me weeks before and asked for me to be "President" and told me that this person is an idiot ect... WHAT A TWO FACED EYE OPENER THIS WAS LADIES AND GENTS.

I feel like what the world is this place coming too? How many two face HOA members are out there? I am a fairly outspoken person. I know this guy will tell me "congrats on winning the election.. I almost want to say " Are you so sure of that? I heard you knocked on doors telling people not to vote for me...

Irene welcome to the wonderful world of politics. Whether you're running for a BOD position or President of the United States it's all the same just the size of the prize differs. One of my neighbors ran for the BOD and although I genuinely liked this person, I didn't feel like they would be a good Board member so they didn't get my vote. Although I never actively campaigned against this person my position was not a secret and yes when they won I congratulated them.

Speaking of two faced there was a poster on here by the name of TammyO3 who stopped posting about the time you started yet the tales of what's happening in your HOA and hers are eerily similar. Could it be you are the same person different persona or just a weird coincidence? It happens I know because my upstairs neighbor occasionally posts on here too.

Studies show that 5 out of 4 people have problems with fractions

Oddly enough you may be correct as I know our HOA knows of this site due to the fact that is how I was introduced. Although we don't have a Tammy on on board that doesn't mean anything. I didn't read all of Tammy's posts, but yes I suspect we have a fellow board member perhaps here. We do have a 5 lady 3 man board, and one lady just got voted off the board.

Irene: Don't let it bug you I have been on our BOD for 21 years and for that entire time we have had 2 empty seats, chairs, positions. Its called Apathy. What most Americans suffer from big time. In our local City election there were 165,000 people in our city, 125,000 registered voters. Guess how many bothered to vote at all. 2,000. The guy who won the City Commison seat had a total of 423 votes.
This is the primary reason why Congress pays no attention to people in this country. I bet nationally less than 20 percent of the people bother to vote at all.
Yet according to a certain political party we should stop helping that country get democracy even thou 90 percent of there registered voters bothered to vote not withstanding a certain entity promising to kill them if they voted. I call it the Nation with the Purple Thumb.
About being 2 faced expect it in Politics its part and parcel of life in a negatively charged society that we find our selves in. TV and newspapers demand show only negative results of situations hence people act and live that way its called habit.
Dont take things personal when you are on a BOD or you will follow the long line of people who quit because some bad person said bad things about them thats what I have come to expect from people at HOA Meetings they prefer to complain about you or your projects instead of there lack of compliance with your ccrs and by laws.

Don't quit quitters never win and winners never wine!

This is my first year on the board, and already I have seen some startling contradictory behaviors among the homeowners. I'm guessing it's probably fairly common. Some people are just more prone to being honest than others.

Dr. Phil says, when you have the option of being kind or being right, always choose to be kind. I know, not always easily done, but I think it helps to keep your eye on your action items. So, will anything you say to this man make him change his mind about you? Probably not. Additionally, there's a good chance that if you say anything at all to call him on his behavior, he'll only use that to solidify his beliefs about you. I think the wisest route is to assume he may suspect his words got back to you and that you choose to overlook his big mouth. Your generous action may help to diffuse his attack mode. But I don't think anything you could say would.

I faced a similar situation when collecting dues. Some yahoo sent in a sarcastic note on his invoice. His payment was technically 1 day late and missing the $25 late fee. Yeah, I was tempted to have a few words with the guy. In the end, I had nothing to gain from doing so. Keep your eye on the ball.

Irene,

Welcome to the "real" world! People are not always what they appear to be. Even everyone you call a friend, might not be. I recently had a talk with my granddaughter about "fairweather" friends. Please don't let the gossip told to you by your neighbor bother you. And, know that men gossip too! It's not just a "woman thing".

Good luck in your new term of office! :-)

Irene - you'd better get a thicker skin if you are going to weather this term . . . there are much more important issues to deal with rather than the gossip of one neighbor about another neighbor. Good luck and focus on governance!!

I don't have hurt feelings here, honestly they aren't. The guy that went door to door served with me for 2 years on the board, he told me to my face a couple of weeks ago YOU SHOULD BE PRESIDENT that other guy doesn't now ****. Honestly that is what blows my mind. Not what he was saying about me specifically, but rather how was it that he changed his mind so and felt compelled to go door to door to tell people not to vote for me as I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH to serve!

I am gong to let this one go. but he is one to gossip and loves to catch me in the elevator to fill me on the neighborhood stuff... it is inevitable he will ask me if I am surprised with the turnout out. I can't help but say "Yes especially since my neighbors told me you took the time go door to door to tell them otherwise.. I am sorry, but that is embarassing and it might make me just feel a bit better and move on.

Irene,

If you're going to let this bother you and continue to fester, then it may be good for you to get it out in the open. Just don't be surprised when he denys doing that! But, you know Irene, it really would be much better to just let it go. You'll have enough other more important issues to tackle as a board member.

IreneC - You've received a potential eye-opener regarding potential politics and human nature in your HOA. However, be careful in your actions, and character assessments (...two faced...) towards anyone based upon hearsay. All you know is that this person spoke with you weeks before and asked for you to be president, etc. It's your neighbor that has told you something that needs corroboration and ultimately you'll need to move on, forget about it.

I agree. I think that this person who went door to door with this info completely contradicts what I have been told personally. I can move ahead from this. But, I will be cautious of who I think is trustworthy. Many people in our HOA turn colors according to what need suits them.
