one of our homeowners had a fire. What is a reasonable time to have the dumpster in the yard? The home is vacant and we have seen no activity there in weeks. The dues are delinquent.Help!!
Thanks,

Hi Ruby,

Does anyone know how to contact the owner? You'll need to find out what's going on, and probably the owner would have the best info. Since it was a fire, there is probably an insurance company involved, so things may be moving very slowly.

I'd try to be as flexible as possible in regards to the dumpster due to the unusual circumstances. However, if nothing is being done at the home and you find out that it's tied up in some insurance quagmire, you should request that whoever hired the dumpster company to put it there have it removed until work is ready to begin. Somebody is paying for that dumpster to sit there day after day and I would think it is the homeowner's insurance company.

Ruby,

Well, you can send delinquent notices for the dues and perhaps levy fines. But, the board should realize that the homesite is going to be in disarray until the insurance claim is settled and rebuilding takes place. Depending upon the amount of damage caused by the fire, the insurance company involved and many other issues, I'm sure, it could take a while; so be a little patient.
