Recently I (serving as president of HOA) have received requests from homeowners to hold fund raising events on the common grounds for different organizations. Every one has a good cause to raise funds and we want to be supportive but we do not want our neighborhood to open the door to every cause. If you allow fundraising events do you have a form for the homeowners to submit with guidelines, etc for the board to vote on? If so, will you please attach a copy of it so we can base our request form from it.

Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce,

Would this be an outdoor event or would it be held in a clubhouse? But, either way, I would suggest charging a fee for this and instigating certain guidelines to be followed. The person renting the space should be resp. for clean up and damages, if any. Sorry, I don't have a form.

You need to talk to your insurance company about this, and probably need the homeowner or the organization they are raising money for purchase liability insurance for the event. The association's insurance should not be on the hook for this type of event. You should also look at a signing a contract and I would strongly look at whether this is a good idea for you. The wear and tear on your common property for no rental income may or may not be worth it.

More info needed: If this is a national or local charity, and they are having a bikeathon or such activity, and want to use your grounds, simply ask to see their one-day insurance coverage. Most fundraisers take them out for liability. (All the groups I belong to get them)
