In Florida---I was always under the impression that according to State Statutes that the only person that could not run for the Board of Directors is anyone who is a convicted felon. Now I'm told that if a convicted felon has had their voting rights restored then they CAN run for the board.

So my question is this: How in the world do we find out if their voting rights have been restored? I can't find that in any county records. If we simply ask the person they could lie about it. We can't ask for a voter ID card....they could say their rights are restored but they didn't register. Any ideas?

it is interesting your subject concerns felons on Boards. The developer of
our community is a convicted felon and he was the President of the HOA prior
to turning over the HOA to the residents. I can only recommend first, you read
the Florida Non-Profit Corporation Law. Does the law address felons on Boards?
Does Florida have a HOA statute? Do you have an attorney representing the Board?
How do you handle other members interested in running for the Board? Do you know their past history?

There can be numerous questions to answer.
