Is there such a thing as a law against/for theuse of grills on condo patios?

A quick search doesn't show a statewide ban in Florida however it shows that many cities have banned them. To find out about your area contact your local fire department (use the non-emergency number) they will be more than happy to provide the information you seek.

Good advice. And if they aren't banned, they should be. A fire hazard and a dreadful stink that permeates for blocks if they use that fire starter fluid.

Ah the sweet, sweet smell of petroleum distillates. Back in the day when I had to light the grill for my parents, I couldn't be bothered with something as mundane as charcoal lighter fluid when a half-pint of gasoline would work much better and get the coals hotter-faster. Of course we had a big yard where I could wheel the grill away from the house (wasn't completely brain dead) and this was before gas hit the outrageously high price of 50 cents a gallon in the 70's when we switched to propane.
AND I FEEL COMPELLED TO ADD - KIDS DON'T TRY THIS AS YOU COULD SET THE HOUSE OR YOURSELF ON FIRE.

Check with your Fire Marshall on your fire code in your state; more than likely they will have requirements for example: it must being away from the wall within so many feet. In NJ I managed hi-rise buildings and they were strictly prohibited by the fire department as well as their condo insurance.

We DID check with our local fire department. They said (and we adopted a rule) that states that grills may not be used any closer than ten (ten) feet from the back of the building.
