Is there anything that can be done about a HO that has planted about 40+ silk flowers bushes (the ones that have 6/10 flowers on one stem) in his front yard....these look so tacky IMO. Maybe if there were just a few but this is way over done to me....All along the front of house, in flower bed around a tree, in pots on the side walk/w American flags also stuck in there, and in front of a lattice which hides the trash can....Am I wrong in my thinking? Picture this across from your house.

How about plastic flowers? Now THAT'S tacky! I've seen those before.

There's probably not much you can do immediately if there's no prohibition against silk flowers in your CCRs, or if your rules don't say anything about it.

BUT

Who's to say you can't change your rules to prohibit artificial flowers? The board makes the rules, so if they want to prohibit it, that's all you need. To be fair, though, give homeowners some time (30 days or so) after the rule goes into effect before you start enforcing compliance.

Don't your documents require original landscape approval and require approval for later changes?

You're right, it could have been plastic..don't think they make them any more, thank goodness.... Yes and NO....it states the shrubs and trees must be replace w/same as developer installed but nothing of flowers...Many HO's including myself plant "real" spring flowers to spruce up our homes. I have Lantana just now starting to bloom....It was beautiful last year....As I said a few in a planter might not be so bad but w/so many it really looks bad....The real kicker is the man who "planted"(stuck in the ground) is a out of state HO (who comes in town 3/4 times a year and our "President" appointed him to the Board. Oh! well, it could be worse...he could have also added lots of those plaster figures that come from Mexico. I will speak to the PM but sure it will do no good.

Better watch out if you go after their silk flowers. They'll claim their xeroscaping cause they definitely requires less water!

Sidney,
Don't your documents have a limit to where an owner can plant things? The only way that this can be handled is if the Documents define your planting areas. Some people's taste, ya just can't account for it. Maybe this guy is trying to get someone ticked off. If so, it is working, isn't it.

Sidney,

Are these real silk flowers or artificial silk flowers? There is a silk flower plant which I think is very pretty. It only gets about 1 1/2' high and blooms all summer. I don't see how you could be offended by real flowers in someone's yard. Now, I would completely understand if they are artificial silk flowers. And if they are the board could very easily make a rule outlawing artificial flowers.

Mary,
In Florida with our extreme weather conditions, these real or not real flowers, are going to last 6 weeks at the most. I can bet money that they will look like doo doo in 6 weeks and that is surely Sidney's concern. The sun here fades out baked enamel pots and our cars dull out in no time so that is a valid concern . But the real issue is whether they are withing the ARC allowances and I'll bet that they are not.

Donna,

We have the same problems here in AZ. However, people are able to plant flowers and have pretty blooms even in the heat of the summer. My only problem would be if they are artificial. Unless the A/C guidelines have specifics for particular plants, if they are real plants there's nothing that can be done about it. Artificial is another story -- pass a rule outlawing them!
