My HOA is a not for profit and there is a weekly BIngo game held in our club house. All monies are paid out in prizes so there is no profit. My question is, can the HOA contribute money to buy a computer and software using the HOA funds. I ama past board member and I was always under the impression that the Bingo coordinators are responsible for all necessary items for the game and that those funds should come from the monies collected from the players. Our HOA just voted at our general meeting to provide a thousand dollars, which I believe out Board members over stepped their authority in even bringing it the general meeting for a vote. I have been trying to research this when I cam across this forum. Thanks for your input.
See this article about the Florida statutes allowing bingo at HOAs with some restrictions: https://www.floridacondohoalawblog.com/2021/05/27/should-an-association-allow-its-clubhouse-or-other-common-area-to-be-used-for-gambling/
The chances of you being in the HOA where I am on the board are slim, but we did just vote (the board voted, not the general membership) to pay for a new professional style bingo board and console for our bingo games. We hold bingo games in compliance with the statue and otherwise they are self supporting (all jackpots and expenses paid for by selling cards). However, it is such a popular activity that we felt that it was important to support it and the new board and console are a huge upgrade. We have an activities budget and paid for it out of that. Since the activity is open to all homeowners, we feel it's a benefit to the community.
