We have a gated community with two entries. We use the key system for emergency vehicle access, but they tend to enter at one entry and exit the other. This leaves the gate open. Are there viable options out there? Both our city and county fire departments do not like the strobe or siren alternatives.

Hi KenL6, the most popular options are what you already listed: either put a key in a knox box, or, use the "squawk your siren to open the gate" thing.

If the first responders are willing to carry a remote or a long range RFID card, you could give them one. But downsides are: you have to issue one remote/key card for every emergency vehicle in town, and, this doesn't scale well. Meaning, if your town has many gated properties, it is not practical for the fire truck to carry a remote for every property.

Are emergency vehicles visiting often enough that this is an issue? If it is just occasional, I'd say just close up the gate manually after they leave, and forget about it...
