Yep, I'm starting posting these types of articles again! They're not always HOA specific, but I like to think they do address leadership issues anyone can learn from - and when you serve on a HOA board or advisory committee and make decisions that ultimately affect the entire community, that's what you are, whether you want to admit it or not. I've always felt the best leaders do so by example and are always looking for ways to do the job better, but that's just me.

This one discusses when leaders should make autocratic decisions. Of course, I always feel HOA board decisions should be a group decisions, but there may be times where an HOA officer (usually the president) might have to make a quick decision. Some people may be better at handlining that level of responsibility than others, so I hope this article gives you something to consider and evaluate the wisdom of someone who made a decision - or feels he/she has the right to do so because he/she is the president/treasurer/advisory commitee chair and therefore they are. Have fun!

I think the article confuses autocracy with leadership. Sometimes somebody has to take control or an out of control situation.

I've started reading more about group psycholgy articles. how virtual meetings can stiffle input, how a chair can manipulate how motions are worded to gain an upper hand, etc. its' very interesting.
