Have any other associations considered having their curb address numbers painted on a group basis? It can often be vital especially for 911 headlights and I know a lot of condo associations like mine have community mailboxes so there's no mailbox numbers out by the road. There's companies online that advertise it to him just about anywhere in the US if they're big enough highly discounted and there's one that even offers an option to let the individual residences sign up at a discount. It's really a service that has to be solicited neighborhood by neighborhood because it's cost prohibitive to drive across town for one house. Thanks for your input

Why not run a community poll to see how they feel? Has anyone had issues with emergency services, contractors or delivery people finding their homes? Do the homes have address numbers posted somewhere on their homes - getting something that doesn't have to be repainted periodically and can be set with numbers tgat can be seen at night might be more useful.

While I am not against your idea, I think I would first speak with the EMS for your community and see if there are better options they would prefer.

Excellent point Dean & 911 came up with great answers. First, GPS is not exact because when they're saying 20 houses on the street it divides the length of the street by 20 and we all know people can have different length properties. Second it takes time for the GPS to reach the satellite and pack so that alone can make it off a couple addresses

It sounds to me your issue with GPS is your streets may be private vs dedicated and the addresses in a GPS data base. My thoughts were to spend a bit more money and put reflective address placards on the buildings.

Yes Dean placards on the building would help but unless each one is well lit it's not the same as being in the path of the car headlights plus the placards might be obstructed by trees and bushes and such

Thank you so much Sheila and Dean for all the perspectives. Seems the disadvantage would be having to repaint and the advantage is proximity to the street, esp 911 headlight at night when they get most of their calls. Mildew is the determining factor in longevity in having to repaint. I've seen some in new neighborhoods that look like new after 10 years and others in areas with many trees dropping acorns and pine cones that struggle to last a year or two. Since HOAs mostly started just a few decades ago it seems most would have little mildew. Homeowners can also pressure wash or simply pour bleach on the day before painting. One company offers to do all or just those in the HOA who sign up, both ways at discounts because it saves them from having to hang fliers on all the doors.

They do have spot lights on EMS vehicles and painted numbers on curbs are not all that easy to see in heavy rain or if obscured by leaves in the fall and winter.

Then yes they have spotlights but of course they rather not use them in the middle of the night if they don't have to. House on numbers and any numbers are also obscured by rain and even more so because there's more distance from the driver to the numbers. You do have a point with leaves covering it but that depends a lot on the curb layout and how many trees there are. And being said curb numbers can be more advantageous than any other kind of numbers in certain situations.
So why not let the association take advantage of their role and get the curb numbers at a substantial discount? Whether they pay for all of them or send an email to the residente offering them to sign up at a discount.
As I said it's a service which must be solicited neighborhood by neighborhood because it's way too cost expensive for the travel for one job and that's where the associations can play a major role.

we updated our CCR's to require clearly visible mailbox and home numbers last Fall. We'll be sending out warning letters this spring and fining people that don't comply. it passed by super majority. One person seemed pissed. She wanted the vote to include all options like mail box only, curb only, home only. I told her great, submit that as a ballot question for next year. as usual, that would take too much effort, no response. People want it there way, they dont' want to take 5 minutes of effort to actually have people vote on it and have it go there way.
