We had a board member resign, after 3 weeks on board. She sent a letter with another board member with her keys, and her reasons for leaving accusing other board members of things that did NOT happen. She wants this letter read at the Homeowners Meeting. I as president see no reason to read this letter, it does not involve, any home owners. Why should we have to defend ourselves, against these things and explain what did and did not happen. This is just childness. I would like to say she resigned for personal reasons and leave it like that Any thoughts on this?

LaverneB - 3 weeks is a pimple on an elephants behind in the scope and perspective of getting something changed or accomplished. Sounds like unrealistic expectations, sour grapes, and too much work for the member who resigned. Don't read the letter, place it in the members personal file, place the vacancy fill on the next agenda for an open meeting, and consider filling the empty spot with the person who got the second highest number of votes in the prior election (if there was one).

Certainly - everything is basically a personal matter. However, you can assume she will be bad mouthing the board to all who will listen. Has anyone confronted her to get to the bottom of the problem? Harold

I would write a very brief statement for the next meeting, stating that so and so has resigned from the Board for personal reasons. "Personal reasons" is what she did use as her excuse. That is all that you have to do. If she had not resigned yet, and she showed up and wants to resign the proper way, she must be allowed to read her resignation and all of the balony that is written on it. That's the way she should have done it so in hindsite, you are very lucky that she just did not have the courage to hang in there and face everyone. Don't feel that this is a bad thing that happened to your Board because it happens every day and everywhere. And thank gooddness that she is gone.

Just what was her gripe? Is there something that the remainder of the Board should address that set her off so bad? We all know about the old addage that there are 2 sides to every story.

The resignation becomes official when it is accepted by the Board. That is placed in the minutes. Do that now for the record. Then, hurry to fill the vacancy. Everyone will forget about it in 2 weeks.
