We are a small gated HOA of 40 single family homes. We are fortunate to be mostly owner occupied and have supportive residents. Our gate entry system is a 1990s Linear keypad with old the DIP switch remotes. Considering an upgrade. What are viable options for a small HOA? Are there any license plate recognition or RFID based systems that scale down to a smaller association lacking full time staff? Main issue isn't the cost of the system, we just don't want a very large ongoing monthly subscription fee or something that requires a full time manager to deal with. Moderate ongoing cost and a little effort is OK. Thanks for any advice.

I remember we looked into one of those license plate reading systems but some of the homeowners were skeptical so we just hired a security. I get their reasoning though, it would be pretty easy to make a fake plate to get into the community.
