What can be done to stop solicitors from coming in door to door? Our HOA owns the roads; it is not public property. We have posted it at entrance. Should we send letters to solicitors banning them from future campaigns or is there another step. Our police will come, but by the time they get there the solicitor is gone.

Realistically, unless you have a gated community, it will continue to happen.

Everyone (not just one, two or the Board) needs to tell the solicitor no soliciting and call the police (police may respond quicker if there are more calls about it).

You already have the signs at your community entrance, but you should also encourage everyone to put No soliciting signs at your door. Add a no trespassing sign for good measure.

If they cone to the house DON'T OPEN THE DOOR. If you have a doorbell camera, you should be able to speak through the door and say firmly you don't do business with door to door solicitors of any type.

The community could also send letters to the companies and some areas have lists that people can sign up their addresses and solicitors aren't supposed to visit, so you might check with the city. While you're at it, see if there are any rules regarding soliciting by mon profit organizations. They can still do it because of free speech, but there could be rules on what times they can do it.

If enough people do it, you may slow it down, although you may never really stop it.

If it is not right do not do it; if it is not true do not say it. Marcus Aurelius

If any one solicitor is particularly annoying, pay an attorney to send a C&D letter. If this solicitor persists, make him an example and pay the attorney to get a restraining order (injunctive relief).

A restraining order looks bad on a business's record.

In our city a solicitor must have a license to be a solicitor. We have the solicitation signs up and if a solicitor comes into our association and does not have a license from the city, we are to call the non-emergency number of the police department. We received this plan from the city attorney.

Don’t open their front door, but play the sound of racking a 12ga shotgun. That should take care of the issue.

In our community we have an on-site property manager. If someone reports a person going door to door, he goes and tells them that they are trespassing and they need to get out. We are a gated community so either someone let them in or the snuck in. If they continue to solicit, he calls the police and they are escorted out of the community and officially trespassed.

If your property is posted for no soliciting, you can inform your owners to tell the person (even through the door or window) that they are trespassing and have them call the police. Realistically, they aren't going to stop unless the police make them.
