Do digital looks work or are they as useless as a brass key?

I am under the assumption that digital locks have a serial number that is assigned to a resident so we can find out who
opened the door and when. Is that the Jitz of how they basically work?

if you use key fobs yes, you can find out who opened the door. however they can easily be copied at home depot.
if you use a 4 digit pin then some allow that, while others do not log that information. and people can share the pin code.

Most digital locks, where people enter a code, use only one code for all the users. The more expensive systems have individual codes and tract each entrance.
