The Board in my HOA decided not to use electronic voting this year, but maybe next. There is so much led time in Calif. before the Annual Meeting that the caret Board felt it would be rushed. Since our restated Bylaws have no quorum requirement now ( we always made quorum of 25% anyway) the benefit of pranks better voter turnout is not an issue for us.

In an HOA with an owner approval process for increases in regular or special assessments, I would not be in favor of electronic voting.

The knee jerk reaction to any price increases to any product people have to have is to say no. With an in person vote, the board has the opportunity to present facts mostly captive audience before voting,

Electronic voting should be considered in HOAs in CA where they have trouble making quorum .

But, CAlif permits absentee or mail-voting so , at least in my HOA, when we had a 25% quorum requirement, we always made it even though 25% of our owners are absentee and another 10% only are here part-time. At our annual meetings, perhaps ONE owner will vote in person at the meeting.

Attendance is very good b/c owners are so curious about who wins the election.

Looking at Dean's post again, I don't know what he's talking about.

Today you received a letter from you electric provider with a 20% rate increase because the utility needs to improve infrastructure. This increase requires your approval by an electronic vote. You voting yes?

Now change the electric utility for your HOA. Some HOAs require owner approval of the annual assessment and special assessments. I believe those need to be in person voting after the HOA board presents in person the need for the increase to those who actually attend a meeting,
